These are bears that are based on an image from Western Siberia, from the Iron Age (1BC to 10AD). At this time, bronze casting flourished and this image of the bear 'in ritual posture' was widely used. Personally, I find this a beautiful and powerful image, and I hope you enjoy the pieces I have made.

I've made carvings of the bear in two sizes, and have cast them in Sterling silver and bronze using the lost wax process. The silver pieces are hallmarked on the back, and I've made some of them with gemstones in the dish in front of the bear's muzzle.

The bears come with a deerskin thong and have two loops on the back, placed so that the thong passes behind the silver bear and doesn't detract from its shape. The loops are large enough so that you can replace the thong with a thin chain if you prefer. I have some bronze bears without these loops, and these can be sewn on to clothing/hats etc - I can make the silver bears in this way too. When the bronze pieces are new they are very shiny and bright - over time they develop a lovely patina like you see in the photo.

Bronze Siberian bear (flat, not a pendant)

This is a bronze casting of a carving I have made, based on an image from Iron Age Western Siberia. At this time, 1BC to 10AD, bronze casting flourished (they're on the Silver page as well), and this image of the bear 'in ritual posture' was widely used. Personally, I find this a beautiful and powerful image, and I hope you enjoy the pieces I have made.

The bronze pieces are plain on the back rather than having loops for a pendant.
Size: large, 36mm diameter; small, 31mm diameter.
